| Thallus subfoliose, irregularly spreading, rosette-forming, to 4 cm wide. Lobes short, broadly laciniate, flat to convex, 1–4 mm wide, thick, leathery, with slightly thickened margins, entire or shallowly notched or incised to occasionally sublobulate, often ±wavy, ascending to involute, developing prominent blue-grey limbiform soralia on upturned lower surface. Upper surface distinctly areolate-scabrid at margins, dark blue-green when wet, pale grey to glaucous chestnut brown when dry. Lower surface delicately cobwebby, without bundles of long rhizohyphae, white to cream or pale buff. Apothecia unknown. CHEMISTRY: medulla P+ yellow-orange, vicanicin and norvicanicin. | ||
| Occurs in Tas., on bark, in a damp, sheltered grove in heathland at 600 m on Coprosma; also in New Zealand. | ||
